Roughly 15 Verizon workers and members of the Communication Workers of America union are passing through Dutchess County today as they walk from Albany to the Occupy Wall Street encampment in New York City.

The workers, who left Albany Nov. 10 and expect to arrive at Zuccotti Park Thursday, stopped at the Occupy Poughkeepsie encampment at the city’s Hulme Park this afternoon.

They held a rally at 5 p.m. near the Verizon Wireless and Verizon FiOS stores on Route 9, in Wappingers Falls, according to organizers.

Poughkeepsie resident Mike Salvia, president of the CWA Local 1120, said the marchers are concerned about possible changes to the company’s pension and health care plans.

“We are concerned about corporate greed,” he said. “We are the 99 percent fighting against the 1 percent.”
