Verizon to sell rugged Casio phone for $150
Computerworld - Verizon Wireless announced a rugged Casio push-to-talk cellphone that will go on sale Nov. 23 for $149.99 after rebate.
The G’zOne Ravine 2 is designed for outdoor workers and adventurers, Verizon said. It is equipped with an Opera Mini browser and runs the Brew Mobile OS, but Verizon didn’t call the device a smartphone and didn’t provide its processor size.
The focus is on ruggedness, not computing speed. The phone meets a U.S. military 810G standard for resistance to water, shock, dust, vibration, high altitude and other environmental factors.
As a global phone, it can be used in 200 countries and supports GPS functionality in a variety of applications. It has a single 3.2 megapixel camera and a 1.38-in. color display, well below the 3.5-in. to 4-in. displays in the latest non-durable smartphones.
It also comes with a microSD card slot that supports up to a 32GB card.
