Verizon, Sprint, AT&T launch preorders of Apple iPhone

Verizon, Sprint and ATT launched preorders of the new Apple Inc.
iPhone 4S last night, giving customers a chance to have the phone in hand on its Oct. 14 launch date.
Verizon and ATT launched their preorders at midnight on the West Coast, offering three models of the phone ranging from $199 to $399 with a two-year contract.
The carriers did not comment on how many phones they expected to be preordered.
Sprint, which announced earlier in the week it was getting the iPhone for the first time, also launched preorders on its website. Sprint, the third-largest wireless carrier, is the only one with an unlimited data plan.
The new iPhone was announced Tuesday.
All three wireless carriers also have cut their prices on the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 3GS.
The Phoenix area has five Apple retail stores as well as an active app development community.
