Verizon invests $373 million in Florida

invested more than $373 million in its Florida wireline communications networks and IT infrastructure in 2011.

The company detailed some of its spending in a written statement. Among the highlights:

  • Verizon extended its fiber-optic FiOS service to more customers in Hillsborough and Pasco counties. By year’s end the services were available to more than 1.16 million Florida homes and businesses.
  • Verizon began proactive migration of customers in Wesley Chapel to fiber-optic service to improve service reliability over existing copper network facilities.
  • The company upgraded its Hillsborough County administrative offices with advanced Ethernet transparent local area network service capable of providing very fast broadband speeds. The network was connected to 55 locations last year.

Verizon (NYSE, NASDAQ: VZ), headquartered in New York, reported in January that it had net income of $10.2 billion, or 85 cents a share, on revenue of $110.9 billion for 2011. The company reported $10.2 billion in net income, or 90 cents a share, on revenue of $106.6 billion in 2010.
