Verizon, Best Buy clues show Droid 4 delayed at last minute

Verizon and Best Buy caught by Droid 4 delay

The last-minute delay of the Motorola Droid 4 was inadvertently confirmed after a pair of sightings. Visting the Best Buy Reward Zone shows a picture of a bonus point giveaway with the unannounced Android slider clearly in view. Separately, a scrape of the DroidDoes.com page by a Droid-Life tipster has produced audio samples that showed Verizon had already prepared at least some of a Droid 4 page.

Both are signs that Best Buy and Verizon were virtually ready to go with the Droid 4 but backed off. The reasons still haven’t been uncovered, but it’s suspected that Verizon decided against shipping the phone to avoid being lost in holiday sales and clashing with the delayed Galaxy Nexus launch as well as whatever might show at CES in January.

Earlier tips had the original ship date on December 22 with the delay pushing it back to February 2. The hardware isn’t expected to change in between and would see it mix the dual-core 1.2GHz TI OMAP chip of the Droid RAZR with a four-inch, 540×960 display, LTE-based 4G, an eight-megapixel rear camera, and the signature Droid slide-out keyboard. It may still carry Android 2.3 by the time it ships despite Android 4.0 first appearing in November.
