Terremark Taps New President To Lead Verizon Cloud Charge
Terremark, the cloud computing subsidiary of Verizon, tapped a new president to steer its cloud ship.
The Miami-based cloud provider has revealed that Nelson Fonseca has been named Terremark’s new president. Fonseca succeeds Kerry Bailey, who was recently named as chief marketing officer for Verizon Enterprise Solutions, a new unit within Verizon that will oversee all business, government and wholesale operations across Verizon’s wireless and wireline businesses.
Fonseca takes on the role of president after having served as Terremark’s chief operation officer, a position in which Fonseca drove operational efficiencies and shaped the company’s focus. Before taking the COO post, Fonseca was president of Terremark’s U.S Public Sector business unit where he oversaw Terremark’s federal, state and local government initiatives. Other positions Fonseca held within Terremark include senior vice president of sales for Terremark Federal Group and vice president of sales for Terremark Worldwide.
The executive shift comes roughly eight months after Verizon’s $1.4 billion acquisition of Terremark closed. In June, Verizon showcased its Terremark integration plans, which makes Terremark Verizon’s cloud computing business unit.
“When Verizon initially acquired Terremark, one of the main drivers was the outstanding leadership team that was in place, and Nelson will continue to be an invaluable asset for the company,” said Bob Toohey, Verizon Enterprise’s COO, said in a statement. “Nelson is a dynamic leader that will continue to drive Verizon’s global cloud strategy and deliver the enterprise-class IT infrastructure solutions that large companies and government agencies require today.”
Along with Terremark, Verizon has continued its climb into the cloud with the acquisition of CloudSwitch, a cloud software player that enables users to move applications between cloud and on-premise infrastructures. In a September report, Bailey said Verizon has invested “well over $2 billion” in cloud technology and cloud services this year.
