Motorola, Verizon to announce new devices October 18th

On Monday, Motorola began sending to press outlets invitations to an upcoming event in New York City. Promising “the next big innovation” the event will likely mark the unveiling of several new products, including both tablets and phones.

Potentially on the agenda is the Xoom 2, images of which were leaked online in September. Motorola is also expected to launch the Xoom 2 Media Edition, an 8.2-inch tablet weighing less than a pound.

The other half of the announcement is likely to be related to new smartphones. Considering that the invitation image is named “spyderlaunchinvitev3fin” it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to assume that one of the devices will be named the Spyder. And if that name sounds familiar, then its because it was one of many names attached to a Motorola device leaked late last month.

Motorola has also released a visually stimulating but woefully unhelpful teaser video, as is its wont.
