Motorola DROID 3 and LG Revolution reaching Verizon’s end of life
Worth Reading?

We know that at least a few of you have been patiently waiting for the DROID 4 – gotta have that high-powered QWERTY action. The latest internal Verizon leak seems to imply a February release date, and that’s corroborated by an upcoming end-of-life status for the Motorola DROID 4. An anonymous source told The Verge that the last DROID 3 units would be shipped to Verizon this month, along with the LG Revolution. Take that for what it’s worth, but Verizon probably wouldn’t stop selling a major player in the DROID line without having something ready to take its place soon.
Verizon is reportedly axing a bunch of other devices too, including the Palm Pre 2 (rest in peace) and all of its current WiFi hotspots, including the 4G LTE models. That will make for a busy February for Verizon, assuming that most of them have some kind of replacement coming into VZW’s line up. Of course some might not need a replacement; between the Galaxy Nexus, DROID RAZR and HTC Rezound, Verizon doesn’t exactly need another slate 4G phone like the Revolution hanging around, unless they can swing it at a very low introductory price. Note that “end of life” doesn’t necessarily mean that support or updates are finished, it just means that new units will no longer be featured at retail, online or in advertising.
At this point we know pretty much everything there is to know about the DROID 4: 1.2Ghz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4-inch QHD LCD and RAZR styling, with a helping of 4G LTE to boot. The only question remains when we’ll actually see the phone, which at one point seemed poised for an early December rollout. That date was probably passed over so that the Galaxy Nexus could be given a little time in the spotlight. Odds are pretty good that we’ll see the DROID 4 in the flesh at CES, so stay tuned.
